Sleeping buddies
When Connor was little, he slept with a small brown bear. When Nicholas was little, he slept with a small kangaroo that had a baby kangaroo in it's pouch. Kyle has never been one to sleep with a stuffed animal. He would just toss the stuffed animals out of the crib if his brothers suggested a sleeping buddy for him. Today, however, he seems to have finally picked a buddy. At nap time, he fell asleep tightly clutching Spider-man. We'll see if and how long this sleeping buddy lasts.

Birthday Celebration
We went to the movies last night to watch The Muppets for Nicholas' birthday. The boys LOVED it and it brought back so many happy Muppet memories for me. Connor said his favorite Muppet was Walter- who is the new Muppet. Nicholas said his favorite was Kermit and he really liked the song, "Rainbow Connection."
After the movie let out, we went to dinner at Florentine's. Nicholas really wanted to eat spaghetti and meatballs for dinner. Then we ended at home, singing "Happy Birthday" and enjoying a Chocolate Mousse pie.
Both older boys said it was the best day ever! This is a weighty statement, given that the last time they said that we were at Disneyland!

5 years and 100 Days
Today our little Nicholas turns 5!! He is growing so fast and we are so proud of him. Kyle and I surprised him with a birthday Batman balloon after school. We'll have chocolate mousse pie for dessert tonight to celebrate.
Tomorrow is the 100th day of school at Connor's school so we worked on the finishing touches of our 100 Day project. He had to think of a creative way to display 100 items of his choosing.
We decided to work on treasure boxes. We glued down some sand since treasure is typically buried in sand. We then stuck down 10 jewels in each treasure box.
Kyle's favorite pastime is still sitting outside watching cars, people, and animals.

Birthday Party
We celebrated Nicholas' 5th birthday this past Saturday. He has known for months that he wanted a Batman party and was so excited it was finally time to celebrate! He had a couple of friends over and they all had a good time. None of the kids wanted to leave. When his last friend finally left, it was dark out and Nicholas was amazed that his party had lasted until 'night'.
The pull string pinata was fun, even though we had to pull out ALL the strings to finally find the one that released the candy! Even JT gave it a shot.

He decided he wanted a Batman in a green costume for his cake decorations.
Thank God for the Internet and someone who had already made one I could borrow and print out.
I think they desperately just wanted to pull them all by this point.

Sick :(
Thursday, Nicholas came down with a cold. He got a runny nose, followed by a cough. Saturday, Kyle also came down with a runny nose. I figured it would be just like Nicholas and not a huge deal.
He napped at 6 pm, which is odd for him, but given that he was getting sick, it didn't faze me. He woke up at about 7:30; a long nap, also odd for him. He was kind of warm and seemed to be getting warmer, so at 8 I checked his temperature. I was very unsettled to find out he had 104.8 fever. I took him to Urgent Care right away. He was quiet the whole way to Palo Alto. When we got there, I took him off the car and we had walked less than three steps away from the car when he threw up. I was like, "Great..." Not only did I not know where in this building I needed to go to find Urgent Care, but I now had the possibility of him throwing up all along the way. Finally, we found Urgent Care and signed in. They gave us a plastic bin in case he threw up again, but thankfully that was the last of that. He still held that little pink bin tightly and spit into it a couple of times. The Doctor checked him out and found that his ears were clear, his lungs were clear, his throat was fine, and no signs of pneumonia or anything like that. He said if the fever persisted, I should take him to see his regular pediatrician. I told him either way he already had his 18 month check-up on Monday, so we would see her anyway.
Sunday he woke up playing peek-a-boo and then ran off to find his brothers, wanting to play. I was relieved. He was fine most of the day, but he did have his fever return a few times, though not as high as Saturday night. Monday we saw our pediatrician and she also found him to be fine overall. She said it was just a nasty virus he would work through.
He measured 96th percentile for height at 35 inches. He measured 54th percentile for weight at 27 pounds. Other than his current illness, he's a very healthy boy and developing well.
Nicholas had to think of something that starts with the letter Ii for homework, so he made a picture using ink. He enjoyed breaking open the pen to get to the ink. Perhaps none of my pens are safe now!

Disney!!
I had wanted to go to Disney while they still had all their Christmas decorations up, but it didn't seem to be in the cards for us this time around. Then, suddenly the cards all fell into place at the last minute!! Yay! So we got to go on the very last weekend that Disneyland is all decked out for Christmas. The boys had so much fun and so did Charlie and I. We are all so very tired and look forward to going again soon hopefully. Charlie was even considering year passes. :)
We drove down to Anaheim on Friday after Charlie got off work. We arrived at 11 and went straight to sleep. We awoke early on Saturday, ate breakfast, and headed to Disneyland for opening at 8.
The first thing we did was the Star Tours ride. Kyle could not go on that one, so I waited outside while Charlie and the older two went on the ride. When they came out, I switched with Charlie and the boys and I went on the ride. When the ride starts, at some point they pick a random person on the ride to be the "Rebel Spy." It so happened that when we were on it, Connor was picked as the spy and they flashed his picture on the big screen. I turned to him and exclaimed, "WHY didn't you tell me you were the rebel spy?!" He was shocked and yelled back to me, "I DIDN'T KNOW!! I DIDN'T KNOW!!" Then he was relieved when C3PO said they had to defend and protect the spy. Of course, he was so excited to go tell Daddy after the ride that he was the Rebel Spy.
After that we went on the It's A Small World ride. All three boys really enjoyed that ride. Then we were off to wait for Jedi School to start. It is a show where they pick about 30 kids from the audience to be trained in the ways of the Jedi. Connor desperately wanted to be picked and I had made sure he understood that there were many, many more kids that wanted to be picked and only a small number would actually get to participate. I told him we would try and hope for the best, but he might not end up being picked. He said that he was okay with that even though I knew he had his heart set on it. We got there and there was only a handful of kids, but as the time drew nearer, more and more kids showed up. Finally the Jedi Masters came out and started choosing their young Padawans. My prayers were answered because Connor was the very first one to be picked!! He was so excited and so were we!! He loved Jedi Training School and kept telling everyone all day that he defeated Darth Vader. I know that is a memory he will cherish forever! Afterwards, Nicholas was bummed he hadn't chosen to participate-- maybe next time.
We rode a bunch more rides at Disney, like the Pirates ride and Haunted Mansion. All three boys really enjoyed them. Nicholas was thrilled on the Haunted Mansion because Nightmare Before Christmas is one of his all time favorite movies and it was all decorated to that theme. Charlie and Connor rode the Indiana Jones ride and they both really loved it! Kyle and Nicholas were too short to ride it, so I stayed with them and we visited the Tiki Room instead.
About mid-afternoon, we went to the California Adventure park across the way. We rode the Little Mermaid ride and we all loved that- especially me!! Then we watched the Phineas and Ferb dance party. The boys really loved that and the older two went out and danced with them. Kyle really, really wanted to go and join them also but he was not allowed. Sometimes it is very hard to be the littlest brother.
We were going to eat dinner at Ariel's Grotto but we found out how beyond expensive it was and opted not to go after all. After dinner we went on a giant ferris wheel together and on the Toy Story ride. The boys really loved that one!! Then Connor and Charlie rode the giant roller coaster there. Connor has only ever been on small kiddie roller coasters, so I was afraid this one might make him decide against roller coasters, but nope; He LOVED every second of it! Charlie said it was the MOST INTENSE roller coaster he has ever been on himself so he was surprised Connor loved it so much. So it looks like Charlie finally has a partner to ride those roller coasters, because I will never be going on with him.
We tried to stay for the water light show at California Adventure, but Kyle was super afraid of it and just wanted to get as far away from it as he could so we went back to Disneyland. We watched the firework show and went back to our hotel because all of us had super sore feet and our legs just about wanted to fall off. The boys fell asleep almost instantly. We were so happy that several times throughout the day, they kept telling us it was the best day ever.
