We have been very into chalk this week and so I finally took some pictures.
Connor is trying hard to pretend to be looking up but concentrated on his chalk art.
Kyle was walking around being goofy for the most.
He spent a lot of time on the floor. He would pretend to fall down and be hurt so I would console him. Sometimes he stayed down there to draw.
And a short video of some of our chalk time. I chose this one because Nicholas is humming while he works.

And we have CAKE!
Today we got our car back. Yay! Then we drove to pick up a cake for Charlie. He desperately wanted a Black Forest cake but two bakeries I went to on Wednesday did not have it (even though they normally do). Anyway, we went today to one of the ones I went to because Charlie had faith that they would have it this time-- and they did! He was thrilled and the boys were just thrilled we finally had a cake.
Connor sang a Happy Birdie song he learned at school.
Not to be outdone, Nicholas tried to sing his own version of Happy Birdie as well.
And after all that yumminess and singing, Charlie spent his evening relaxing and playing Star Wars: The Old Republic online. Can you tell how he felt about his night? :)
You may notice Kyle's face is quite red with sauce.
We had lasagna for dinner and well, he's a messy eater.
The boys were pretending to eat all of Daddy's cake!

Sun Versus Moon
Connor made a picture for his teacher. He worked really hard on it and when he was done, I loved it. I tried to get him to let me keep it, but he was determined that it was for his teacher. As a compromise, he let me take a picture of it to at least be able to keep it that way.
Adventures
Yesterday was Charlie's birthday and overall it was a pretty happy one. There was a snag that interfered with it being a SUPER happy one. I picked up Connor from school and we went to get Charlie's birthday cake. They did not have the kind he wanted at the first bakery, so I was about to drive to a different one-- but our Expedition decided that was out of the question. It had been giving us problems a few months ago but it was intermittent and the dozen or so mechanics we took it to could not diagnose the problem. It stopped being an issue and was fine for a month and a half. Then yesterday it decided that it was done being intermittent and just was broken in general now. I tried to turn on the car a few times, since before it would start if you left it alone for a bit, but no luck. So the kids and I walked home. Thankfully this bakery was less than a mile from our house.
Charlie then left work early to try to get the car towed if needed and to a mechanics before they were all closed since he normally gets home at six. So we got the car towed (Pretty cheaply too so let me know if you ever need a tow!). The mechanic we chose was super close to the house so it was not very far to go at all. They tried to turn it on there too and thankfully it still would not work. So hopefully they can find out what is wrong with our old car and if it is worth fixing or if we need to start looking for a new car. (Connor hopes for a new car and Nicholas hopes we can keep this one.)
Given that the evening was so busy, the boys were sad that the car was busted but even sadder that we never got around to getting Charlie's cake so we could sing to him. We still sang, but it wasn't the same for them. Poor little guys! So hopefully today we can run out and grab a cake for Charlie... if not, then we'll do it on the weekend and have pictures to share with you.
Since we were trapped in the two cars for a few hours while we got it all sorted, the boys started going a little stir crazy so I let them play in the car. Kyle decided he would take over as driver. And in case you are wondering why he's smiling like that, it is because his brother, Nicholas, taught him that it is fun to smile with your eyes closed when someone tells you to say 'cheese'.

More Valentine's Day
Tonight we went out to dinner to celebrate both Valentine's Day and Charlie's birthday (which is tomorrow). We went to Su Hong's in Palo Alto with Grandpa Jim and Grandma Connie. Thankfully, it was not jam packed (although it was pretty full). We ate so much delicious Chinese food and we had so much fun. We are now suffering from food coma. HA!
Anyway, given the double specialness of the occasion, we all dressed up a bit.

Charlie surprised me early this morning with some beautiful tulips.
It was my turn to bring snack to Nicholas' class so this was it! Cheese hearts, a small strawberry cupcake and a heart shaped watermelon slice. My Valentines
Happy Valentine's Day!!
I decided to ask the boys what Valentine's Day is to see what they thought... below are the video results. I have take the liberty of including a written account below each video just in case you can't understand what they are saying.
Nicholas was my first victim since Connor was working on his homework at the time.
Nadia- Nicholas, what
is Valentine’s Day?
Nicholas- When you give someone a gift.
Nadia- Why do you
give them a gift?
Nicholas- Because
that is friendly.
Nadia- Do you give your family a gift on Valentine’s Day?
Nicholas- Yeah.
Nadia- Who told you that?
Nicholas- No one, I just know.
Nadia- Oh… so what do you want to
say to your family?
And then apparently he doesn’t
know what to say and ends up giving me a tinker toy from the floor as a
Valentine’s gift.
The next video is Kyle talking to Grandpa Roy on the phone. Well, he mostly listens but still.
And last, but certainly not least, is Connor's description of Valentine's Day.
Nadia- What is Valentine’s Day?
Connor- What is Valentine’s Day? Why do you want to know that?
Nadia- Just tell me.
Connor- It’s a special day where
you give people hugs, kisses, and stuff.
Nadia- Why would you do that?
Connor- Because it is a part where
you love people.
Nadia- Hm. And who do you love?
Connor- Two people… I mean three …I
mean four……. I mean five.
Nadia- Okay…. Who?
Connor- Kyle, you, and I love Miss
Slusher, Mrs. Heiser, and Rachel.
I'm just glad I made his list of loves, unlike poor Charlie and Nicholas!

A Pirate's Life
This weekend I went to a great pirate themed party! It was so fun and the boys have enjoyed playing with the eye patch. :)

Lost
Today has been a lot of running around. Perhaps it was all that running around to appointments and errands that wore on Nicholas; I'm not really sure.
Anyway, let's start at the beginning. Today was class picture day. Connor desperately wanted to wear a nice shirt and a tie for the picture. The only problem is that he's grown so much his size 6/7 year old ties no longer fit him. He was very sad until I managed to work it so he could wear one of Charlie's ties. It was a Spider-man tie no less! :) Everyone was happy. The boy went off to school and I went to the groceries, then to the Pediatrician to get Nicholas' TB test checked, then to the craft store for some necessary Valentine making material, then home. We were only at home long enough to eat lunch and then we had to go pick up Connor from school. When we get to Connor's school, Nicholas usually runs off to play with some other boys his age who are also waiting for their older siblings (only about ten feet away from where we wait for Connor and in view of me). He knows to run back to me when the bell rings. Well, the bell rang today and Nicholas came back. The only problem is that Connor wasn't ready to go, but he hardly ever is ready to go right after school. He often stays behind to help Miss Slusher clean up or erase the board. Today's reason was that his desk was a total disaster area and so he had to stay after to clean it up. So we waited and Nicholas asked if he could go play again. I said yes. He went off and Kyle and I kept waiting. It was almost 15 minutes of waiting when Kyle finally started to get very restless and tired of sitting in the stroller with no excitement going on, so we went in the class to see what the hold up was and to try to rush Connor along. He was still cleaning and organizing and going ever so slowly. I tried to rush him and finally he was almost done. It was then that the Principal came over the loud speaker and announced, "Mrs. West, could you please come to the office. We have Nicholas here." I was like, "Great..... " I left Connor with his teacher and ran to the office. Nicholas was sitting in the chair there surrounded by office personnel who were listening to his sob story of how he became lost. He was crying a little but calm enough to be telling his story in a coherent manner. When he saw me he was thrilled and ran to me. He grabbed my hand as if nothing had happened. I asked him what happened and he said, "I was lost." I asked him why he hadn't gone into the classroom to look for us (especially since we tend to go in most days anyway!!) and he said he didn't know we were in there so he went to the office. I told him next time to go inside the classroom and if I'm not there, ask Miss Slusher where I am. I also reminded him that I would NEVER leave him behind. So I may not know why he chose to look in the office rather than in the classroom, but I was glad that at the very least he was safe.

Before he was lost
Connor showing off his outfit.
If you look closely, you can see Nicholas in the classroom

blowing his nose from crying over being lost.
And here you have Kyle. He loves it when Daddy and Connor are missing from the meals because he's free to use one of their chairs to eat instead of using his high chair.
