This week, Connor was sick with a 24 hour stomach bug. While he was laying on the floor between bouts, he suddenly cried out, "I just wanted to live a peaceful life! Why, God! Why me!!"
I tried so hard not to laugh at his overly dramatic statement. Poor guy! Good thing it was only 24 hours of torture and he is now resuming his peaceful life.

Thanksgiving
The boys both had Thanksgiving feasts at school. The difficult part was that they were both at the exact same time, so Kyle and I ran back and forth between the two.
Here is a cute little turkey Nicholas painted in class. He was quite proud of it!
Each student in 3rd grade brought in a vegetable for their soup. Then they got to enjoy it together.
Given Connor's preference to veggies, he was thrilled to have a vegetable soup.
Nicholas' class also got to have some soup, but they also had popcorn, cranberries, and corn muffins with butter.
After their feast, Connor's class got to have a 3rd recess for the day!

Tia Lula
Today my Great Aunt passed away at the age of 80. We referred to her as 'Tia Lula'. She was a wonderful woman and I have many fond memories of her. She was always cheerful, she loved children with all her heart, and she loved shopping. Unfortunately, she had Alzheimer's and she could no longer even recognize her own Grandchildren. She will be terribly missed and I'm glad my children got to meet her and know her on our Summer visits to Laredo. May she rest in peace.
Here my Tia Lula is pictured with us and her loving husband, Tio Beto. He is undoubtedly heart-broken at the moment. I pray he finds solace in the fact that she is finally at peace.

Eye Worry
About a month ago, Nicholas' eye was red-ish and very swollen when he woke up. We took him to urgent care since it was the weekend and we wanted to know what was wrong. The Doctor there said she was very concerned because it was not pink eye, but rather it seemed to be an infection, or beginnings of one, in the deep tissue around his eye. She said it concerned her because if it was that he would need to go on antibiotics right away for fear that it could spread to his brain. We were told to watch it and if it was the same or worse the next day, bring him back in immediately. Well, that day it got better and by the next day it was fine, so we left it at that.
Then yesterday, the same thing happened-- to the same eye! Again, I took him to Urgent Care. Again, the Doctor there was very worried. She said to keep him home today and if it was the same or worse, bring him back in. This time she gave him eye drops for the itchiness he complained about. This morning, he woke up and it was much better. She had said that if at any point in the day it got bad again, to bring him in, but that even if it was better I should schedule an appointment with the actual eye doctor to find out the cause of this recurrent problem.
By Noon, it seemed that it was well on the way to being completely normal so I called the eye doctor. She decided that she wanted to see him today. They tested his eyes and did a full examination of them. In the end, she said it was just allergies. She said that something in his environment was causing this reaction and that is why it keeps happening and will continue to happen until we determine what it is and find a way to keep him from it. In the meantime, he is supposed to wash his hands super thoroughly after playing outside and try much harder to keep his hands away from his eyes.
I was so relieved it was a pretty minor thing and that his eyes are just perfect. :)
The eye doctor did recommend that he see an allergist to figure out what he is allergic to, and given my experiences with that, I'm sure that will not be fun. But we'll leave that worry for another day!

Kyle
Kyle is quite the little character. He comes up with the strangest things sometimes and we have no clue most of the time where he got it.
The other day he was talking to my brother, Roy, on the phone and Roy told him to give him all his Halloween candy. Whenever anyone from my family calls, their picture is on the screen, but we were all surprised when Kyle responded to Roy's candy request with, "I don't think so, Grandpa!!" We couldn't stop laughing, which only made him say it more. I guess either Roy looks very old, or Grandpa looks very young!
Kyle also objected the other day to wearing pants. Keep in mind that this child would happily run around naked 24/7 if we allowed it. I told him he HAD to wear pants as I struggled to put them on him and he responded, "No. Donald Duck don't wear pants! No pants!" I still put on his pants and couldn't help but wonder how long he had been building up his little argument against pants.
He also recently has started to use our words against us to to speak. When we want him to do something he doesn't want to do, he will simply look at us quite sternly and seriously, point his finger at us, and say, "That's against the rules!"
Kyle also recently made a very serious announcement that "alligators are very dangerous." I made the mistake of giggling at his serious tone and he only became more serious and determined to get across the severity of his statement as he repeated to me, "Mom, alligators are VERY dangerous!" I agreed that they were and he went about his business.
One last Kyle thing I wanted to share was that my bedroom has different pictures from The Little Prince book. We often look at them together at bedtime and he talks to me about them. One of the pictures is a drawing the main character from the book uses as a litmus test to determine if someone is a grown-up and lost the wonder and innocence of a child's eyes. When we got to that picture, Kyle said that it was a picture of a hat, which is the response the man always gets from grown-ups (The picture is supposed to be a boa constrictor digesting an elephant). I laughed and wondered what I would have thought that picture was when I was a child. In any case, if the test proves true, then we can only conclude that at a young age of two, Kyle is a grown-up.

Speech
Connor had to do a project for school. He had chosen a book and then made a fake cereal to promote that book. He also had to make a commercial to sell said cereal and interest people into reading his book. He practiced for many days and memorized his commercial speech. He did awesome at home but was nervous about how he would do at school. Well, it turns out he did marvelously! His teacher was blown away and gave him a no homework pass for how well he did (no one else had gotten one for their speech). She was so impressed, she sent him to the other Third Grade classrooms to show them his speech. He also went to say it for several other teachers. This attention really made him happy and confident.
I tried to take a video of his speech today to show you, but you have to understand that Kyle and Nicholas were in the background goofing around and Connor wanted to get it over with (since we had to start the video over several times due to little brothers interrupting the speech and he really wanted to join in the goofiness with his brothers). After about 15 takes, this was the best one. Keep in mind he had a bigger smile and much more enthusiasm at the beginning of the filming process- poor guy!
We are so proud of him!!
